Abstract
Social Media has become an essential platform for public participation in the life
of the nation and state. This article discusses the positive and negative impacts of
social media on public participation and how social media can be used to improve
the quality of life of the nation and state. Its positive impact is increasing access to
information and political participation. Social Media can mobilize the masses and
raise awareness about important issues. Additionally, it increases Government
Accountability: Social Media can be used to keep tabs on government performance
and hold it accountable. The negative impact of social media can be used to spread
misinformation and hoaxes, which can trigger polarization and social conflict.
Social Media can be a platform for cyberbullying and hate speech, which can
negatively impact the mental health of individuals and communities. Excessive use
of social media can lead to dependence and directly affect social interactions. Social
media has great potential to increase public participation and the quality of life of
the nation and state, as well as for economic improvement. However, it is crucial
to be aware of the negative impact of social media and use it responsibly. It is also
crucial for the government and civil society to work together to create a conducive
and positive social media environment. This study is a normative and qualitative
research study.
